Oracle Cards For Introspection
Like so many of us, over the last few days, I’m feeling the pressure of living in a somewhat uncertain world. Coronavirus has spread from country to country and state to state. Most of us don’t know what to expect and that can feel a little overwhelming.
The other night as I watched the news a wave of uncertainty washed over me. My family lives in a Covid-19 hotspot with several cases already reported. Throughout the day tensions were high, family members bickering, and nobody was really looking forward to the concepts of social distancing and self-quarantine.
I needed some guidance and remembered I had purchased a deck of Earth Magic oracle cards a few months back. I browsed through them once, looked over the beautiful artwork, then slipped them back into the box and placed them on the shelf with my other decks.
As I contemplated my current life situation that deck popped into my head. Without hesitation, I shut off the news and grabbed the deck. I turned down the lights, took a few deep breaths and cleared my mind while shuffling the cards. When my mind was clear, I fanned the cards out face down on the floor, ran my hands over them and selected a card.
Music – Harmony
It was the perfect card to contemplate. With tensions so high everyone was stressed out and bickering all day long. I spent the rest of the evening meditating and contemplating the thought of harmony. The following morning during breakfast we had a family talk about staying calm and working together. The entire day had a much happier, harmonious vibe to it.
I was so impressed with the first card drawn, the next evening I performed the same ritual before bed. I shut off the TV, turned down the lights, shuffled the cards, fanned them out and selected another.
Gaia – Nurturing
Again it was the perfect card. It showed me the importance of nurturing others and also myself. In times like this, it’s important to be nurturing to friends, family and ourselves. Everyone is feeling a small level of anxiety and stress. Nothing puts somebodies mind more at ease than a nurturing nature from someone close to them. Everyone wants to know & feel they are loved. By nurturing others we can help improve harmony and take away from the stress and anxiety others may be feeling.
This was my first experience with oracle cards and I’ll be incorporating this practice into my daily life. Being a more traditional practitioner of tarot and cartomancy I never really gave oracle cards the respect they deserved. Over the last couple of days, I’ve found them to be an invaluable tool in both achieving balance and introspection.
